Most social media apps give everyone the same profile layout. Take Instagram for example: when you visit someone's profile, you always see the same grid of posts. Some people might like that design, but not everyone does. Why can't my profile be covered in Hello Kitty GIFs? Why can't it be green and black like this site?
Another thing I really dislike is the algorithms they use. I don't dislike algorithms per se, but I don't think that a big company should be buying my personal data and then using it to feed me the content they want me to see. We're literally at a point where even your FUCKING CAR collects data, which it then sells to insurance companies.
When millions of people depend on a single platform, the decisions of a small group of people can completely change the experience for everyone. If the company changes ownership or starts pushing a particular agenda, users can't really do shit about it. They're just stuck consuming whatever slop they wanna recommend
Let's make a hypothetical scenario: Imagine if the richest man alive bought a huge social media company, fired most of the employees and made the app a shitty right wing propaganda platform.(Any resemblance to actual billionaires, living or tweeting, is purely coincidental.)
Like Imagine if you had a place on the World Wide Web , where you can post whatever you want, you can write about yourself in the Who? section, or write about whatever you want in the Blog section. You could even put links everywhere and make them green just cause you decided so.
